14. 04. 2023 – 15. 04. 2023, opened from 2pm to 9pm
The two-day pop-up exhibition by artists Alex Selmeci and Tomáš Kocka Jusko is the outcome of a longer-term collaboration that arose from the need of Gallery 35m2 collective to transform the existing exhibition space into a venue better suited to the gallery’s current needs. As a result, a spatial installation has been created, the dominant feature of which is a modular cabinet made of recyclates, which will find its use even after the pop-up exhibition as a functional element of the gallery environment. Its format, like the other objects represented in the exhibition, is based on the duo’s long-standing interest in the topic of transportation and its related (human) infrastructure. This is then reflected in the works created by a certain flatness and compactness of the individual “containers/boxes” guaranteeing the most efficient storage and subsequent potential transport.
Alex Selmeci and Tomáš Kocka Jusko, who have been working as an artist duo since 2017, are currently completing their studies at the Intermedia Studio II of Dušan Zahoranský and Pavla Sceranková at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. In their artistic practice, they mainly deal with the creation of objects, environments and complex intermedia installations. Their emphasis is mainly on the materiality of objects, through DYI principles, recycling and circulation of individual components, they often build stories between reality and fiction, or in the planes of speculation.
